All of us would like to be known as top achievers in our pursuits. High achievers standout because they have different behaviors that produce better results than the norm. They set BIG goals. They create and work a plan of action. Then they follow through on every detail to achieve those goals.

To kick off 2013 we decided to share these five fantastic habits with you. We suggest you take one, master it and move on!

 1. Create and pursue H.A.R.D. goals

Most mangers are very familiar with SMART goals Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. But smart goals seem to indicate " a play it safe and stay within your limitations mentally", according to Mark Maury in his book 100 Percentoers Challenge your Employees to Give Their All. HARD goals are:

 - Heartfelt - they exit to serve something bigger than ourselves.

- Animated - they're so vividly described, to not reach them leaves us wanting.

- Required - they're as critical to our continued existence as breathing and water.

- Difficult - they're so hard they will test everyone of our limits.

2. Stop Doing Busy Work - Be PRODUCTIVE!

Being busy is often a form of mental laziness - lazy thinking and indiscriminate action." This is Ferris' way of saying "work smarter, not harder. Ask yourself what task have I accomplished today that made me a better LEADER: for my company, more profitable and my agency more efficient? Am I strategic orientated or task orientated ?

3. Get out of the fish bowl

The number one thing  that  persistently keeps smart people from being high achievers is a reluctance to accept an opportunity , whether they are ready for it or not. In other words, they feel uncomfortable and believe they require additional knowledge, skill, experience, etc. before they can aptly partake in the opportunity.

4. K.I.S.S. - You know the rest!
keep it simple

If you're trying to make a decision about something in your life, don't waste all your time evaluating every last detail of every possible option. Keep It Simple!Choose something that you think will  work and give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, learn what you can  from the experience, choose something else and
keep pressing forward.

5. Spend Time with the RIGHT People

High achievers associate with those who have achieved the goals they are trying to reach. They hang out with people who create energy when they enter the room versus those who create energy when they leave. They' re connected with influential individuals who can support them with their own dreams and goals.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit"
- Aristotle
